Event Information
VE Day 80th Anniversary
On Tuesday 8th May, 1945, the long-anticipated news of the end of WWII in Europe resulted in spontaneous celebrations breaking out across the nation. A national holiday was declared and people from all walks of life came together to mark the moment.
The 80th anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) Day is a time for the nation to come together to learn about the stories of those that served in the Second World War, from the servicemen who fought, the children who were evacuated, and the women who worked in factories and farms on the home front.
Ilkley Town Council will be joining in with nationwide celebrations, hosting a programme of events that includes live music, singing, and the lighting of a commemorative beacon. Please join us at Ilkley Bandstand from 7pm.
Keep an eye on this page, as more info and timings for the event will be unveiled soon…
